Peter J. Verdin, MD

With a love for the technical, hands-on aspects of surgery, Dr. Peter Verdin chose orthopaedics because of the opportunity it gives him to help significantly improve peoples’ lives. After graduating with a BA in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado, Dr. Verdin completed his medical degree at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He then studied at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, where he completed his surgical internship, a one year research fellowship, and his orthopaedic residency. Additionally, Dr. Verdin was a Trauma Fellow for one year at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

Dr. Verdin practices general orthopaedics with emphases on sports medicine, orthopaedic trauma, post-trauma reconstruction, and joint replacement. His special interests include unicondylar (partial) knee replacements, total shoulder, knee, and hip replacements using minimally invasive techniques, complex fracture reconstructions and correction of malunions, and arthroscopic shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle procedures.

A former Orthopaedic Chairman at Inova’s Alexandria and Mount Vernon Hospitals, Dr. Verdin has been named a “ top doctor” by several organizations such as  Washingtonian “Best Doctor,” Checkbook “Best Doctor,” and “Top Doctor” by Virginia Business Magazine and Northern Virginia Magazine.  Dr. Verdin is also active in several professional medical organizations and in the community, having served as a team physician for Episcopal and West Potomac High Schools and as a past board member and president of the Fort Belvoir Swim Team.

Dr. Verdin’s wife, Patty, is a fitness instructor and former physical therapist. The Verdin’s have two daughters and a son. Their oldest daughter played Division I Lacrosse for four years at the University of California, Berkeley, where their middle daughter is a Division I swimmer. Their son also stays active as a varsity baseball player at Paul VI High School. In his spare time, Dr. Verdin stays active running and cycling.
