Allen G. DeLaney, MD
Originally from central Florida, Dr. Allen DeLaney earned a BS in Systems Engineering as well as a Masters in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Florida in Gainesville before completing his medical degree at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Upon graduation, he completed an internship in general surgery at University of Florida Affiliate Hospitals followed by a residency in anesthesia at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. Additionally, Dr. DeLaney completed a fellowship in surgery and anesthesia at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
After opening the Anesthesia Department and serving as its Chairman at Reston Hospital for several years, Dr. DeLaney became a partner in OR Econometrics and enjoyed a successful consulting career working to analyze and develop troubled anesthesia practices throughout the country. In 1999, he returned to Northern Virginia to assist Commonwealth Orthopaedics with the development and management of ambulatory surgery centers. After serving as Medical Director for the group from 1999-2006, Dr. Delaney now devotes his anesthesia practice exclusively to Commonwealth facilities.
An active member of the American Medical Association and the American Association of Anesthesiologists, Dr. DeLaney’s professional interests include outpatient anesthesia and pain management. He is also involved in Rehab to Racing, a consulting partnership dedicated to helping injured athletes return to training and racing.
Dr. DeLaney and his wife have adult children, and together, they enjoy traveling and participating in outdoor sports. Dr. DeLaney also makes time for sailing, skiing, and competing as a successful triathlete on a regional and national basis. As a USAT certified triathlon coach, he and his wife train and rehabilitate injured athletes.
