George Aguiar, MD

Raised in New York City and fluent in Spanish, Dr. George Aguiar was drawn to the field of orthopaedics out of a desire to help improve and change the lives of patients with acute and chronic injuries. Dr. Aguiar graduated with a BS in Biology from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and then continued his education at the Georgetown University School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree and was named to Alpha Omega Alpha. With a love for the DC area, Dr. Aguiar stayed at Georgetown to complete his surgical internship and orthopaedic residency.

Intrigued by the constant challenge to stay abreast of the latest technologies and procedures within the orthopaedic specialty, Dr. Aguiar enjoys interacting daily with patients and using his surgical skills to improve patient disabilities. Dr. Aguiar has tailored his practice to include primarily sports medicine and adult knee and shoulder reconstruction. With extensive experience in total hip and knee replacements, Dr. Aguiar’s special interests also include arthroscopic rotator cuff and labral repairs, ACL reconstruction with grafts, arthroscopic shoulder instability repair, ankle arthroscopy, and total knee replacements.

As coordinator of the Educational Cadaver Labs for Commonwealth Orthopaedics, Dr. Aguiar is involved in training surgical residents in the latest orthopaedic procedures and instructing residents at Georgetown University. Dr. Aguiar is also active with area hospitals and serves on the Operating and Credentialing Committees of Reston Hospital. Additionally, he is team physician for Langley High School and regularly devotes time to seeing athletes at school.

Dr. Aguiar is married to a nurse practitioner, and together they have five children.
