Commonwealth Orthopaedics and Fairfax County Public Schools Partner to Provide a Free Educational Workshop


Sixty athletic trainers (ATC's) from Fairfax, Arlington and Loudoun County Public Schools as well as physicians attended a free workshop, "Collaborating Care Between Sports Medicine Physicians and Athletic Trainers," on Sat., Feb. 20 at Inova Fairfax Hospital. The program included topics on Athletic Pubalgia, Hip Dislocation, Labral Tears and Femoroacetabular Impingement, Special thanks to the following presenting physicians: Mark Hartley, MD, Christopher Annunziata, MD, Andrew Parker, MD, Amanda Trucksess, MD, Emilio Canal, Jr., DDS, FASD, Anthony Moawad, DMD, Frank Pettrone, MD and Keith Smithson, OD.

“The workshop provided a great opportunity for the certified athletic trainers from local high schools to interact with physicians and other health care providers from Commonwealth Orthopaedics to improve skills, share information and develop a working relationship that will have a positive impact toward the overall health care provided to student athletes,” said Jon Almquist, ATC, FCPS Athletic Training Program Administrator. “At Commonweatlh Orthopaedics we are committed to working closely with certified athletic trainers at area high schools. We see them as critical partners in providing student athletes with information about injury prevention and rehabilitation,” said Mark Hartley, MD, President of Commonwealth Orthopaedics.
